5 Top tips for keeping your kids entertained when you’re WFH

Keeping Children entertained when you have things you need to do can feel difficult, more so when you’re trying to work. Working From Home with kids is so much easier now than it was in 2019, but sometimes children just don’t understand that you can’t entertain them right now, so what can you do?

We’ve created a guide to our five top tips for keeping your kids when you’re working from home, to give you some ideas that keep you and your child happy. From kids' activities at home to fun educational activities, there’s something that works for everyone.

The Crafty Pods Guide to WFH

1. Arts and crafts

This may seem like an obvious solution to keeping your kids entertained. Providing access to arts and crafts allows your child to exercise their creativity, and using the right materials means they won’t need to call you for help. Pick crafts that are easy to complete on their own, like painting or glueing.

Yes, crafts can be a little messy, but messy play can be the best entertainment for kids, and you can keep it contained using a Crafty Pod messy mat for easy cleaning (so you won’t be finding glitter under your pillows for the next few weeks!).

2. Toys and Games

Toys and games are a great way to entertain your kids. Having a selection of items to play with allows them to pick and choose what they would like to play with, allowing them the freedom to be creative and make decisions without you.

Clearing up toys and games might be the last thing you want to do after finishing work, but they provide a distraction and allow your children to be independent, even if it’s only for a small amount of time.

Designating a particular space for play time can make tidying up easier on you, and keep your children entertained in a particular area, so you can get on with your work without worrying about what they’re up to.

3. Get Active

Getting outside and using pent-up energy is a fantastic way to keep your children entertained. Taking some time to go for a walk on your lunch break, or going for a quick trip to the park, will be good for your mental health as well as the mental health of your children.

Being cooped up inside all day isn’t fun, and can lead to some interesting behaviours from your child. Allow them to run off any excess energy for half an hour and who knows, they may even want to go for a nap later.

4. Audiobooks and videos

Leaving children to use electronic devices all day is not a healthy use of time, but allowing them some time to watch their favourite youtube videos, or listen to an audiobook for some chill time may be the key to a little peace and quiet whilst you get your work done.

Why not kit out a little ‘chill zone’ for your children, so they can sit and watch or listen to their favourite video or audiobook in a cosy area that leaves them feeling zen.

5. Educational Activities

Learning isn’t just for school. There are hundreds of free resources available online that you can provide your children with for some fun, educational activities. Have a look at some fun educational channels on youtube that your children can follow along with, or set up some messy science experiment to keep them entertained.

Set up a messy play pod for fun science experiments such as Coffee Filter Chromatography Flowers or Water Walking, and allow your kids to learn by doing as you continue with your work.

These tips can help to keep your child entertained for hours whilst you get your work done, a productive day for everyone!
